Alpha-0 is a NDA release of Ashes of Creation.[3] This is the first of many internal tests of the networking, backend and node system.[4]

Intrepid had a special livestream on december 15th, 2017 with a preview of alpha 0 gameplay.

Participation

1,200 to participate in Alpha-0 over a 3 day period starting Friday 15th of December 2017.[5] Participants will receive alpha keys by email in early December.[6] The email will contain a survey link where participants can choose their preferred time slots for testing.[4]

Guidelines on what is required from Alpha-0 testers will be provided via email. The developers may also come on server to provide specific instructions.[5]

Nodes

The alpha-0 map will be divided into three Nodes, each with a ZOI.[3]

  • Only one node will be capable of reaching the Village stage.
  • The map is a 4km x 4km area.[7]

Starting area

In Alpha-0, players started at an Empyrean divine gateway.[8]

Environments

Alpha-0 river that runs through the center of the map.[9]
Alpha-0 flood plains environment.[10]
Alpha-0 forest environment.[11]

There are four over-world environments (climates/biomes) in Alpha-0.[9]

Alpha-0 has a bio-luminescent Underrealm environment.[13]

One of the important aspects of color play is going to be the distinguishing factor between different Underrealms and the regions that exist in the world: Their color influences set them apart from different regions.[14] – Steven Sharif

There was no active character creation screen in Alpha-0, but there were several options for players to choose from.[16]

Progression

Players will experience some degree of progression.[3]

  • Leveling will be from level 1 to around level 10.
  • New equipment will drop.
  • There will be a tier-based skill progression where players can apply points into individual skills.

Artisan

There will be some gathering and crafting.[3]

There will be three open-world dungeons in Alpha-0.[3]

Arenas

There may be a 5v5 or 6v6 arena (tentative).[21]

Release schedule

Alpha Two is coming in Q3 2024! We have not announced specific dates or testing schedules for Alpha Two, Beta One, or Beta Two yet.[22]

The Ashes of Creation release schedule is subject to change.[23]

Spot testing has begun, some limited NDA'd testers are participating in spot tests and December will see more, including some major headless client testing. Also those of you that still have the A1 launcher may see an update in the next couple weeks.[24] – Steven Sharif
The NDA spot testing that will be before Alpha-2: We will have first one with our PI members, then we'll have some with our Alpha-1 users, and then our Alpha-2 users; and of course Alpha-2 will not be NDA, but that spot testing will be NDA.[25] – Margaret Krohn
