At Village (stage 3) the academic node's unique building is the Library.[1]
- Information about the world will be presented directly to players through the world map UI.[2] Previously the Library was used to access information about the world, such as the history of significant narrative events, locations of gatherable resources, dungeons, and POIs.[1]
- In the past we talked about having a library that was capable of facilitating players exchanging information for map data like that, but we've moved a little bit more in a direction of just presenting that information up front to the player, because travel is such a meaningful portion of the game and we don't have fast travel. So, I think that for Alpha-2 what's planned is that we're going to be showcasing the intricate details of services offered at these node locations from just a UI presentation standpoint within the map.[2] – Steven Sharif
Players can use the Library to access information, including (but not limited to) the following:[1]
Scientific nodes
Academic nodes (also referred to as Scientific nodes)[4] are focused on artisan classes and construction.[5]
- Scholar NPCs are present from the first stage of development (Expedition).[5]
- Upon first glance at a Scientific Node, players will find Scholars on an Expedition out in the wilderness, requesting aid in finding alchemical or natural reagents. If you should choose to help them, you may progress a Scientific Node beyond a lowly Expedition into something magnificent.[1]
- Specialization in Artisanship and Construction mechanics are granted through many of the NPC merchants and through the ancillary quest points within the Scientific Node Type. This will unlock abilities within many professions and allow specialization in the Gathering, Processing, and Crafting aspects of the Artisan system.[1]
Scientific node benefits
Academic nodes that have reached Metropolis (stage 6) unlock teleportation within their vassal network, which can extend across seas, and also include islands.[6][7][8]
- If there are multiple scientific metropolises, then an airship will provide faster travel between those scientific metropolises for citizens of those nodes and their vassal nodes, so long as the metropolises are not at war.[1]
- Previously this was stated to be limited to citizens of metropolis academic nodes regardless of the stage of the vassal node, so long as the vassal node is not at war.[1]
- This will allow Citizens and Vassals of Scientific Metropolises to do things more quickly than others, as fast travel is limited in the world of Ashes of Creation. They’ll be able to exchange goods and information with ease and get to locations in the world at a quicker speed in order to gather crafting materials to create recipes, as well as participate in limited-time events.[1]
Unique node buildings
Each node type has a unique service building associated with it that can be activated at Village (stage 3) of node advancement.[10] The unique building plays a central role in the progress of civilization for a server.[11]
World history
The history of each server will be tracked and visible to players in a node's library.[1][13]
- This design may have changed.[2]
- We're gonna keep track of the history of the world so that we can tell people the story up to the current day. A player who's brand new, who's come in at the six-month mark can take a look at each server, what each server has done, how each server has tackled the storyline; and they can decide for themselves what community they want to join; what version of the world that they want to take part in.[13] – Jeffrey Bard
- Scribes may be able to collect and record information about the events of the world as they see it from their point of view.[14]
Scribes
Scribing is a crafting profession in Ashes of Creation.[17][16][14]
- Scribes can create scrolls or books.[16][14]
- Scrolls can be utilized by different professions to create enchantments relating to that profession. Enchantment scrolls can be sold on the open market.[16]
- Scribes can write freehold building blueprints with specific unique looks.[18]
- They want to be able to collect information about the events of the world as they see it from their point of view. For instance: Nodes leveling up, they want to be able to take that information down and be the one to distribute it.[14]
Languages
Languages in Ashes of Creation may refer to:
- Racial and geographical influences on nomenclature in the lore.[19]
- Localization/Internationalization of the game client for specific regions.[21]
