Scholar's academy
A scholar's academy is a type of social organization within Ashes of Creation.[1]
Universities
At City (stage 5) the Academic node’s unique building becomes the University. In addition to the abilities that the Library and College offer, the University adds even more services, including (but not limited to):[4]
- Component identification for legendary item deconstruction.[4]
- Certification of tier 2 building schematics.[4]
- Concentrated essences for the creation of weapon enchantment stones.[4]
- Runic power stones for accessories.[4]
- Common armor and weapon recipes (level 45 and under).[4]
- Certification of Freehold adjacency bonuses for building.[4]
- Common glyphs for the creation of armor and weapon enhancement scrolls.[4]
- Artisanship mastery qualifications.[4]
There are several great universities across the world of Verra during this time period in particular [25 years before the fall]. Most of them convene a Council of Knowledge, they call it. The Council of Knowledge consists of the greatest minds from each nation. They really don't recognize borders or politics for the most part. Unless their governments try to meddle in their affairs of their pursuit of knowledge. The greatest and most respected elders in the ways of magic - which is basically learning how to manipulate what's called the Essence: That's from where all magic flows - and understanding how the Essence exists in parity with your Life Spark and the world around you: The Universe itself. The greatest of these wizards are found in the Pyrian kingdom; and they are solely in pursuit of knowledge as we read earlier with regards to the Pyrian Elves.[5] – Steven Sharif
The Essence is present in all magic: Divine, corrupt, it doesn't really matter. You can pervert the Essence to bring about types of magic that are not divine.[6] – Steven Sharif
Progression
Social organization progression is achieved through accomplishing tasks or quests within that social organization.[7]
- Some progression is static, but more competitive achievements will be seasonal, based on a ladder system.[8]
There are hierarchical paths pertaining to specific questlines for the organization's thematic.[7] These quests will either be cooperative with or adversarial against other nodes based on their mutual war status.[9]
- - For example, a Thieves' guild may have objectives and quests toward securing a particular item to enable players to advance within the organization.[7]
- Social organizations are going to have questlines that players participate in which some will include sabotage, espionage, intrigue... While it's not necessarily player versus player in the combat sense, it is player versus player in pitting communities in those organizations against each other in a competitive atmosphere, where only some things can be accomplished by certain communities; and not everybody can succeed at a particular task. So, I think that that's a unique way to involve meaningful conflict that doesn't necessarily have to relate to PvP, because obviously we have a lot of PvP systems in the game and and there are many ways for players to participate in player versus player combat; but we also want to make sure that from a progression standpoint, from a system standpoint there are going to be abilities of individuals to follow these questlines, these tasks that will pit organizations against each other, specifically from an organizational standpoint.[10] – Steven Sharif
