to showing some of the stuff we've been

here really excited to show the stuff

we've got this time yes and I my first
- 1:15
my first ah
- 1:17
is of course the world just the
- 1:20
unbelievably beautiful environments that
- 1:23
uh the environment team and the design
- 1:26
team have just come up with with these
- 1:29
ruins and this Forest I mean where where
- 1:31
are we at right now Jeremy
- 1:33
we are in the riverlands and which was
- 1:37
the former heart of the island Empire so
- 1:40
we're among their ruins from a long time
- 1:43
ago after the fall yeah people saw some
- 1:46
of these things
- 1:47
um in the weather and Seasons
- 1:50
um showcase uh so you guys might
- 1:53
recognize this stuff but the alien
- 1:55
Empire that was one of the largest if
- 1:57
not the largest Empire at the town at
- 1:58
the time of the Apocalypse right right
- 2:01
it was at the height of their golden age
- 2:03
when the uh
- 2:05
the fall happened so we are just
- 2:08
standing in their ruins now and it is it
- 2:10
is so cool I always love environments
- 2:13
where
- 2:14
you have
- 2:15
these ancient
- 2:17
almost artifacts and and just locations
- 2:21
that you get to explore
- 2:23
um
- 2:24
it's really compelling yeah is to to
- 2:27
make a living breathing world that's an
- 2:29
actual character of our game Vera should
- 2:32
very much feel like a character that has
- 2:34
so much history and story behind it uh
- 2:37
they're like great fantasy worlds of the
- 2:40
past and other franchises bearish should
- 2:42
very much feel like one of those that
- 2:44
just hearing the name invokes all kinds
- 2:47
of history and character and and living
- 2:50
breathing and and actually a world
- 2:52
that's been in trouble for a long time
- 2:54
now and the players are coming back to
- 2:56
help rescue and recover that I love it
- 2:59
and I also love the fact that Chris
- 3:01
Atkins threw in some slits for this
- 3:05
elf's ears to come through oh my gosh
- 3:08
it's so awesome I feel a lot comfortable
- 3:13
adorable they are adorable this is such
- 3:16
a great outfit
- 3:18
um I'm loving the cape cloth as well
- 3:20
that's very cool so you were mentioning
- 3:23
we are in an area yeah that is uh
- 3:26
relatively dangerous right this is um
- 3:28
these aren't Elite monsters right but
- 3:31
they are still deadly these are looks
- 3:34
like a Minotaur uh Hunting Party war
- 3:36
party that are investigating this area
- 3:39
for some reason it looks like some
- 3:41
Shaman have have come down to this
- 3:43
Riverland area
- 3:45
and they're checking things out and they
- 3:48
have some like guard dogs with them
- 3:49
they've got some drudgers with them
- 3:52
um kind of like reptilian dog kind of
- 3:56
things that are acting as Lookouts and
- 3:58
guards while they're looking around for
- 4:00
things oh no oh I'm walking oh God
- 4:09
hold on one second
- 4:12
Chad what should I do what should I what

what what items or abilities
- 4:16
uh spam two on one of them take that guy
- 4:19
down
- 4:20
all right that was a quick shot right

there

um so quick shot is an ability that has
- 4:26
three charges
- 4:27
um and each shot does more damage than
- 4:29
the last to the Target that you're
- 4:31
attacking you can kind of use it as an
- 4:33
opener Alpha strike kind of ability just
- 4:36
drop somebody it's gonna have that two
- 4:38
back again the quick shot
- 4:40
yep yeah we haven't done like full
- 4:44
cooldown pass on this or anything so you
- 4:45
could pretty much disband right now but
- 4:47
you've got that oh that guy oh God I
- 4:49
have 16 health no no no no
- 4:53
the shaman are not something to mess
- 4:55
with they're they've got that chart how
- 4:57
did we draw so how did I grab so many
- 5:01
they're paying attention okay hold on
- 5:04
yeah you have to be aware of your
- 5:06
surrounding I did not
- 5:09
I was not aware of my surroundings okay
- 5:11
you guys may notice
- 5:13
that I'm not dying right now and I would
- 5:15
just like to comment that the stream
- 5:17
would not be good if I died
- 5:21
trying to fight these things what am I
- 5:23
using here dread
- 5:25
uh that would be snipe
- 5:27
um so unlike quick shot that is an
- 5:29
ability that you can press and hold and
- 5:31
it kind of roots you in place so it's
- 5:33
you gotta you gotta like use that at the
- 5:36
right time but you gotta you do get a
- 5:38
lot of payoff if you can pull off the
- 5:39
whole thing
- 5:40
um so the longer that you charge it uh
- 5:42
the more damage it does I need to get my
- 5:45
some of my health back I I apologize
- 5:47
stream I let me just say that whenever
- 5:50
we do these recordings and I uh am
- 5:54
piloting right I have this very well
- 5:57
thought out outline and plan about how
- 5:59
things are gonna go and somehow
- 6:04
something happens and it just doesn't it
- 6:06
doesn't work I don't know why I think
- 6:08
when Mike Tyson says everyone has a plan
- 6:09
until they're punched in the face right
- 6:11
yeah every now no no plan survives
- 6:13
contact with the Enemy
- 6:15
um but uh so I I didn't I turned on this
- 6:18
cheat code which doesn't let me die if I
- 6:20
fall below one hit point so every time
- 6:22
you see me dropped one hit point know
- 6:24
that I would have normally just died
- 6:25
there and you guys can
- 6:27
um you know take a shot of water or
- 6:29
something
- 6:30
um point for the Minotaur yeah
- 6:33
okay so uh by the way you guys are
- 6:36
seeing where this is early morning here
- 6:38
on the the Varan riverlands
- 6:41
um and you'll see that there's a lot of
- 6:44
weather effects that are happening right
- 6:46
here there's some there's some pollen
- 6:48
because we're in the middle of spring
- 6:49
but it's also early morning so we have
- 6:52
this fog layer that's rolling through
- 6:55
um of course
- 6:56
the Aesthetics of Ashes of creation are
- 6:58
very important we've always said that
- 7:00
game systems makes games funds
- 7:03
um and uh the game environment and the
- 7:06
Aesthetics make it uh make it beautiful
- 7:09
and make it immersive so
- 7:12
um we double down on both of those but
- 7:13
Jeremy talk to me a little bit about
- 7:15
these minotaurs who are these minotaurs
- 7:17
why are they here so these Minotaur well
- 7:20
prior to the fall they were kind of uh
- 7:22
just a nomadic chaotic race they're a
- 7:25
race that really benefited when the the
- 7:27
player races left saying or left
- 7:30
percentage so they in the intervening
- 7:33
time they've gotten stronger they've
- 7:35
kind of found some techniques some help
- 7:39
in some ways from other entities that
- 7:41
aren't friendly so they've they've
- 7:44
really got organized got equipped and
- 7:47
they're kind of actually excited to see
- 7:50
the players come back because they want
- 7:52
some Revenge
- 7:53
so they are looking for ways to uh they
- 7:56
have oral histories and things that tell
- 7:58
of these people that um held them down
- 8:00
and and hunted them and they're uh
- 8:03
they're brutally wanting to exact that
- 8:06
Revenge can I um I'm gonna cheat here
- 8:08
again because I just want to get go up
- 8:10
to them and give people a look at what
- 8:12
these minotaurs look like in the game so
- 8:16
so the terrigora is one of those Clan
- 8:19
clans or tribes uh this one's the the
- 8:22
rain caller who uh has uh Essence that
- 8:26
kind of evokes water he has water
- 8:30
abilities throws water attacks and makes
- 8:34
Shields of of water bubbles around them
- 8:36
this guy is amazing I love the model
- 8:41
work you know Eli's done an amazing job
- 8:45
on these and these are just a shaman
- 8:47
these are kind of the ones that are
- 8:51
Divine and have a little bit of a
- 8:54
connection there there's much bigger
- 8:57
ones much more even scarier ones like
- 8:58
the Marauders and the Berserkers and
- 9:01
even the Khan
- 9:02
oh wow look at that I'm sorry I'm just
- 9:06
looking over in the distance and I see
- 9:07
this this giant like Tower structure
- 9:11
yeah that's the the Tower of Carphin
- 9:13
under a curse that is causing a lot of
- 9:17
problems for the area too oh you're
- 9:19
right actually I think if we approach up
- 9:22
here
- 9:23
we actually cross over into the boundary
- 9:26
of carfen the wreckage of Carphin right
- 9:29
it's like science
- 9:30
and Carphin was a one of the great cities
- 9:33
of the island Empire and it's now and
- 9:36
and
- 9:37
there we go yes
- 9:40
I see it
- 9:42
that my friends that you're seeing off
- 9:44
in the distance is gonna is in Alpha two
- 9:47
obviously
- 9:49
um and Jeremy tell us a little bit about
- 9:51
the tower and it's and what you know
- 9:54
just a little bit not nothing give away
- 9:56
too much but just a little bit about the
- 9:57
tower what is it what is the tower it
- 10:00
was a focus of the the Mages and study
- 10:03
of the alien Empire
- 10:05
Carphin was a city that that kind of had
- 10:08
a great Mage population so it had a
- 10:11
university there
- 10:13
um
- 10:14
and things went bad there during during
- 10:16
the last days of the of fall
- 10:19
um they made some desperate measures and
- 10:21
a really awesome
- 10:23
uh Quest series that um that Scott's
- 10:26
written up and and implementing things
- 10:28
awesome so it's it's going to be a
- 10:31
pretty fun tower that was intended for
- 10:34
many groups to exist within and fight
- 10:37
now track
- 10:39

what type of weapon am I guess thank you
- 10:44
what type of weapon am I using here
- 10:46
this would be the Longbow
- 10:49
um so you can kind of tell like when
- 10:52
you're when you're shooting your basic
- 10:53
attack that the shots are a little bit
- 10:55
slower but have more power behind them
- 10:58
um yeah I really like the model that
- 10:59
Atkins threw together for this oh that's
- 11:02
so good the snockets of an Imperium
- 11:04
design
- 11:06
bow makers of the past maybe someone's
- 11:09
remembered the techniques to make it it
- 11:12
looks so good
- 11:16
like go ahead and uh and hold the button
- 11:19
down one thing that we're playing around
- 11:20
with this that we haven't done with our
- 11:23
melee weapons is has a contextual
- 11:25
Behavior based on if you're tapping the
- 11:28
um just you know pressing the the button
- 11:30
versus holding it
- 11:32
um so it kind of like snipe you know you
- 11:34
can actually hold these attacks and
- 11:35
instead of doing just a rapid fire sorry
- 11:38
just Chad one second something happened
- 11:40
these like these little birds just
- 11:42
spawned right near me and they're like
- 11:45
eating on the ground if I move will they
- 11:48
move
- 11:49

what are they shooting at Us Jeremy

uh those are from their their casting
- 13:03
this water bowl this really hardened
- 13:05
water that's just slamming into you for
- 13:08
Force damage that hits yeah
- 13:12
that's kind of cool all right Chad I

apologize I am now going to
- 13:16
appropriately engage from the correct
- 13:19
get the jump on them Physicians Okay so
- 13:22
something cool about the longbow oh now
- 13:25
they fly away look at that the birds are
- 13:27
flying
- 13:28
something cool about the Longbow is that
- 13:31
as opposed to the short bow you are able
- 13:33
to actually hold and charge each of the
- 13:36
basic attacks is that correct
- 13:38
yep and doing so what does that do for
- 13:42
the weapon user
- 13:44
uh currently it's just a damage increase
- 13:45
but you know some we can do all sorts of
- 13:48
things with this later like you know if
- 13:51
you're charging it up longer then you
- 13:53
can set up some kind of status effect
- 13:55
combo there's all kinds of things that
- 13:57
we can do with it but yeah right now
- 14:00
um it just increases the damage so for
- 14:02
example one thing you could do is you
- 14:03
could do two basic shots and then charge
- 14:05
the final shot and that will give you
- 14:07
like a big spike of damage there at the
- 14:09
end so oh that's cool be charged
- 14:11
individually wow that's pretty cool
- 14:14
and now we have some abilities that we
- 14:17
talked about these are from the ranger
- 14:18
archetype of course we're not going to
- 14:20
show everything that the ranger has but
- 14:22
we are going to give you guys some ideas
- 14:24
of the abilities in its kit
- 14:27
um what is this first ability called
- 14:29
This is snipe
- 14:32
yeah this is snipe um this is the one I
- 14:34
was talking about earlier where it's
- 14:36
kind of like the basic attack but a lot
- 14:38
more powerful you can hold this and when
- 14:41
you see that little flash there at the
- 14:42
end that indicates that it's fully
- 14:44
charged that's a strong ability
- 14:46
yeah you can keep holding it in case you
- 14:48
want to like you know wait for the
- 14:50
Target to get low before you you know
- 14:52
bring them down if they're getting
- 14:53
healed all kinds of things I can do but
- 14:55
after a certain point it stops um
- 14:57
getting charged
- 15:00
oh that's cool
- 15:07
now the what happens let's get into that
- 15:10
environment where I'm getting chased by
- 15:12
a few creatures
- 15:15
see if I can find a couple more because
- 15:18
I know there's another ability we have
- 15:20
called airstrike which is kind of cool
- 15:24
see really cool
- 15:28
so now let's say for example as the
- 15:30
ranger I have these creatures and this
- 15:33
melee guy is on me and I want to
- 15:34
reposition
- 15:37
tell me a little bit about what
- 15:38
airstrike does
- 15:41
airstrike does a lot of things
- 15:44
character and the direction that you're
- 15:46
facing
- 15:47
and it rains three projectiles down in
- 15:50
the path that you're going
- 15:52
and each of those projects does damage
- 15:59
foreign
- 16:02
but it's it's definitely up there
- 16:06
yeah that ability is so rad I love using
- 16:12
it
- 16:13
you can see it's generally nature
- 16:14
Essence to cause roots to come up and
- 16:17
bind to grab the Minotaur
- 16:21
and now this quick shot ability by the
- 16:24
way that
- 16:25
um I see it it has a debuff that looks
- 16:28
like the quick shot icon on the target
- 16:30
what's that doing
- 16:33
uh that so basically each shot of quick
- 16:36
shot will increase the damage of the
- 16:38
next application of that specific attack
- 16:41
against the against the target so it
- 16:44
kind of encourages to unload all three
- 16:46
of your charges for a big spike of burst
- 16:48
damage but that does come at the cost of
- 16:50
each charge comes back individually so
- 16:52
you either have to wait a longer period
- 16:54
of time to get that burst or you can
- 16:56
just kind of weave them in here and
- 16:58
there if you want more readily available
- 17:00
damage got it that's super cool so I
- 17:04
have here
- 17:05
now a reticle on my screen so we've
- 17:08
switched from tab Target mode
- 17:11
which is a point and click with the
- 17:13
cursor or using tab to cycle targets
- 17:15
based on proximity priority
- 17:18
right and into this reticle-based mode
- 17:22
which now you can see the targeting
- 17:24
plate
- 17:26
in the top is slightly grayed out
- 17:29
and we do that to demonstrate that that
- 17:31
is a soft lock Target versus a hard lock
- 17:34
Target
- 17:35
and what a soft flock Target is
- 17:38
Chad you want to explain a little bit
- 17:39
about that
- 17:40
sure yeah so if you if you are in action
- 17:43
mode and you don't have a Target
- 17:44
actually selected like you would in a
- 17:47
tad Target game
- 17:49
um then it'll just smartly choose
- 17:51
whatever Target it thinks is the most
- 17:53
appropriate for where your camera is and
- 17:55
attack that Target but if you were to
- 17:58
actually select a Target I think is it
- 18:01
right Mouse button in action mode right
- 18:03
right now it's of course all this stuff
- 18:05
is customizable by the user but if you
- 18:07
press the the right Mouse button
- 18:11
in action mode it will hard lock the
- 18:14
target which means you can take your
- 18:15
reticle off the Target and it won't
- 18:16
change correct Chad
- 18:18
right
- 18:20
that's awesome
- 18:22
now we have another type of ranged
- 18:24
weapon
- 18:27
show
- 18:29
oh and I can still wow in action mode I
- 18:32
can still tap to cycle Target as well
- 18:37
yeah we really wanted to um case a more
- 18:42
tab based combat here because we in the
- 18:44
last live stream all of our melee
- 18:46
attacks were there were more hitboxes
- 18:49
right they didn't acquire a hard target
- 18:51
and so we wanted to show a little bit
- 18:53
more of that in this stream and so you
- 18:56
know right right here for example Target
- 18:58
you're not having any radicals or
- 19:00
anything like that it's more what you um
- 19:06
but at the same time we still have
- 19:08
abilities like air strike and you know
- 19:10
other things that were we haven't even
- 19:12
shown yet that are going to be more
- 19:13
action oriented so we can hopefully Hit
- 19:16
The Sweet Spot of having a nice
- 19:17
combination of all that and it's more
- 19:20
fun I've played Rangers in EQ eq2 the
- 19:23
great Archer types and Guild Wars and
- 19:25
hunters and wow and what is this mode
- 19:28
with the reticle and stuff it's just fun
- 19:30
running around shooting these guys oh it
- 19:32
is super fun and I've switched over to
- 19:34
the short bow now so let me see if I can
- 19:36
show off that short bow
- 19:38
into a good light one second
- 19:43
uh I'll exit this mode
- 19:47
there we go so now I have a short bow
- 19:49
equipped versus the
- 19:51
excuse me versus the longbow
- 19:55
and talk to me a little bit about the
- 19:57
difference in the short bow tread
- 20:00
sure yeah the direction that we went
- 20:02
with the short bow was a lot more I
- 20:05
almost want to say
- 20:06
acrobatic like you can use this a lot
- 20:10
more freely movement it doesn't slow you
- 20:12
as much it's a higher rate of fire
- 20:15
basically this is this is the more
- 20:18
mobile feeling lightweight uh version of
- 20:21
the Longbow
- 20:22
um so it's not quite as powerful
- 20:24
um because you are trade you're you're
- 20:26
making some trade-offs here
- 20:28
um with range and attack speed and I do
- 20:31
think right now we're actually putting a
- 20:33
higher current rate on this one so it's
- 20:35
got the first potential but these are
- 20:38
just the kinds of decisions
- 20:42
who do I value
- 20:46
I love the the movement of that yeah I
- 20:48
think I mean it is a very different
- 20:50
feeling right
- 20:52
um one I'm much more mobile being able
- 20:55
to shoot and not have to sacrifice a lot
- 20:57
of my movement speed like I have to
- 21:00
so just from that aspect alone it feels
- 21:03
like a very different weapon I'm also
- 21:05
not able to charge I'm just kind of I'm
- 21:07
holding down the attack and it's just
- 21:09
firing about you'll see that I can blind
- 21:11
fire because I'm in action mode
- 21:13
um
- 21:14
that's why I've like fired an extra
- 21:16
there but it is it feels very different
- 21:20
um and of course it doesn't change the
- 21:21
way you have access to your abilities
- 21:23
your abilities are there regardless of
- 21:25
the the type of range weapon necessarily
- 21:27
you're using
- 21:28
um
- 21:29
short bow or longbow
- 21:32
and then I don't have to have a hard
- 21:34
target lock also now for the abilities
- 21:37
either they tie off of the reticle
- 21:42
and I know there's some feedback that we
- 21:44
wanted to collect from players with
- 21:45
regards to this demonstration you want
- 21:47
to talk a little bit about that trend
- 21:50
yeah
- 21:51
um as always every time we make an
- 21:53
ability we're pretty much always
- 21:55
thinking about what is what is the right
- 21:58
balance between
- 22:00
restricting player movement for the sake
- 22:03
of weight
- 22:04
um you know getting getting the feeling
- 22:06
of the weight in that
- 22:07
being able to animate the full body all
- 22:10
the good things that come along with you
- 22:12
know
- 22:14
restricting movement but at the same
- 22:16
time we definitely don't want to be a
- 22:18
game that makes it frustrating to you
- 22:22
know attack and move at the same time
- 22:23
and a lot of people you know what I
- 22:26
think a lot a lot of people love them
- 22:31
free to combat and we want to retain
- 22:33
that so uh just as you see these
- 22:36
abilities go off and
- 22:38
get used in this environment like
- 22:41
I guess we appreciate any feedback on
- 22:44
how that direction is going absolutely
- 22:49
also from the enemy side yes and asking
- 22:53
on behalf of like Doug's encounter group
- 22:55
it's
- 22:55
how fast is the combat playing
- 23:00
um is it too slow is it too fast does it
- 23:02
feel good
- 23:04
um the time to kill or
- 23:06
what you're seeing right now are is it
- 23:09
uh
- 23:09
what what players are liking do people
- 23:12
lights and and keep in mind these are
- 23:14
our solo ones right now these are uh
- 23:17
tuned more for solo fighting
- 23:19
um these aren't Elite group mobs but
- 23:22
one-on-one type of fights
- 23:25
yeah I like um in the solo areas you
- 23:30
know this for me this speed feels pretty
- 23:32
good uh given that I'm a you know GPS
- 23:34
class and these guys are particularly
- 23:38
susceptible to Rangers because they are
- 23:42
um they are uh Mage class NPCs but you
- 23:46
know getting your guys's opinion on
- 23:48
those things also the differences
- 23:50
between the weapon types right we talked
- 23:52
a little bit about the Longbow we talked
- 23:53
a little bit about the short bow
- 23:55
um you know being able to kind of uh
- 23:57
give us feedback on how you feel the
- 23:58
direction uh has gone now uh is this the
- 24:01
type of range combat if you're looking
- 24:03
for those of you out there especially
- 24:05
who are bow users and enjoy these
- 24:07
classes you know what is it about the
- 24:10
games that you have played that you felt
- 24:12
had good uh range combat uh in it and
- 24:16
are you seeing elements of that
- 24:17
demonstrated in this type of combat as
- 24:19
well I can tell you that obviously
- 24:22
seeing is one thing in Alpha 2 those of
- 24:26
you who have access will be able to give
- 24:27
us kind of your feel feedback and you
- 24:31
know of course that's not under NDA so
- 24:32
all of us get to watch and participate
- 24:34
in Alpha 2
- 24:36
um through through watching others play
- 24:39
it and and getting their feedback and
- 24:41
experiences as well
- 24:42
um another thing that I think is is
- 24:45
pretty cool that I wanted to talk about
- 24:48
actually
- 24:49
was these uh weapons and the types of
- 24:53
skill trees that they have associated
- 24:56
with them Trey do you want to talk to us
- 24:57
a little bit about you know how these
- 24:59
skill trees interact with the weapon
- 25:03
for sure yeah
- 25:05
um part of the plan with each of these
- 25:06
weapons is they'll each have a unique
- 25:08
skill tree associated with them to
- 25:11
differentiate them not only in terms of
- 25:13
feel but also in terms of mechanics and
- 25:17
an important thing that we really want
- 25:20
to capture in ashes is is the important
- 25:23
ability
- 25:24
basically consider the player can build
- 25:26
their character you know how they want
- 25:28
and that's been beyond just their
- 25:30

take into account the enemies you're

going up against what areas you're going

very differently and it's a longbow

getting the drop bottom important are

you respect for short bow for being

dodgy and moving around them you got all
