um we as you probably know just are fresh off of a four day

testing weekend for the alpha one pretest and what a magnificent success that was

for us as a studio we cannot express our thanks enough to the testers

  • 3:16

you know testing isn't easy especially uh you know our alpha which is a real alpha

  • 3:22

and um but we had it we had a great time and we discovered a lot of

  • 3:27

bugs that we're fixing and we have made improvements each day we deployed hotfixes and this is the way testing goes right

  • 3:33

the way we get to a great end product is by testing a lot and having the feedback of our community and

  • 3:40

having them involved in that testing period it's it's something that's extremely important and we we as a as a

  • 3:45

team are very appreciative of that of the commitment dedication the perseverance um that our testers have that you guys

  • 3:52

as a community support us uh it is it is extremely important and we're very appreciative but the great thing is that we get to

  • 4:00

show you some footage today so we do have some alpha uh one pre-test footage

um and we're gonna get into that in a second but before we do i'm supposed to go through the

Studio Update

update uh so as you know we are coming fresh off of that alpha testing period um

the actually the i've decided because of the absolute exemplary work that our team has done in

getting the um the alpha ready for this last weekend's

showcasing and testing um the studio actually will be closing tomorrow for the remainder of

  • 7:02

2020 and we will not be back in office until january 4th um so big kudos to the to the amazing ashes

team you guys developers you have done an unbelievable job very proud of each of you i know i gave you

a little message i'm just speaking to my my company right now instead of the stream

they're probably watching but yeah that's true you guys did an awesome job i hope you guys enjoy the break get some well-needed rest you absolutely

need i know you guys worked your hearts out over the past several months so um so get that rest

uh additionally when we come back in january as you guys know we will be starting up an additional hiring round uh and you will see some

january we will be growing the studio significantly very proud of the team members we've

already brought on in 2020 they they are doing an amazing job keep up the great work

so as you guys know out there the more you help spread awareness for Ashes of Creation Intrepid Studios the better

talent we can we can bring we had amazing applicants this last last year um and we look forward to

getting some all right with that being said i think i can transition to this design scene

i can't wait oh wait we already are in the okay oh wait no okay let's preface the video

first so we have a good amount of footage we're going to show you it's per it's predominantly actually a a small

boss fight a little boss fight level 10 boss fight um jeff who worked on these uh on these

uh twins um that was ime and bucky both of them relatively new hires

um they did a fantastic job setting all this up working with animation and uh our

  • 8:47

effects team to kind of make this all work together um so yeah i'm super proud of there's a little bit more work they still want to

do with it um so you'll see them probably evolve as our alpha continues but um but it's pretty fun

pretty exciting um good stuff great job bucky and aimee and and jim also jim sanders did some reworking on

the um some of the spells for the mages i know we toned down some of those spells and then also um did all of the effects

  • 9:11

work for the ancients themselves and for those of you guys out there who um you know tuned into our november

  • 9:18

live stream for charity uh for Extra Life uh you maybe saw some lore about the ancients and actually you're going

  • 9:24

to see the in-game model of these ancients which modeled by keith kovac one of our our senior character artists

  • 9:30

did an awesome job in creating this model it captures kind of the idea behind the

  • 9:37

ancients and as you guys may know there's a whole host of different casts that exist with

  • 9:43

an ancient kind of hierarchy so you're going to see radically

  • 9:48

different representations of this ancient civilization

  • 9:53

and and how they've kind of diverted off of the athletic essence and the eruption

  • 10:01

so this video you're going to see now is about 40 minutes we do have it in 4k but i i don't know why i can't stream in

  • 10:08

4k but i can't so we're streaming 1080p um which means that we're going to load the

  • 10:14

4k footage up after the stream onto youtube so you can check it out there as well um it really does you know doesn't do

  • 10:21

justice to the world Ashes of Creation aesthetic and graphics

that are present uh not to see it in 4k so i suggest you do so after the stream will post and

on discord make sure to jump into um and we'll post that in discord um to give you a little bit of context

so as you know we had the testing this weekend um there's about 70-ish square kilometers of playable

  • 10:47

space within this alpha one testing area so it's it's pretty sizable

  • 10:53

um give you an idea i think that's like 10 to 10 10 i think that's 10 times the

  • 10:59

skyrim map i don't know i remember um to give you context to the size of the map

  • 11:05

uh additionally what you'll know about this kind of area is there's

  • 11:11

a lot of water uh area in this this part part of the map we discussed that this

  • 11:16

this particular area in the world map is in the northwest corner and

  • 11:23

the total size total playable area of Ashes of Creation when we launch is going to be over 400

  • 11:28

so it's a nice chunk of the world map um that people are investing in um keep in mind i got to give the normal

  • 11:35

disclaimers that this is a work in progress this is a pretest of the alpha one uh these are

  • 11:43

not finalized uh character models and armors and effects and ui all of

  • 11:50

this stuff is still a work in progress but the great thing about a transparent development is that you can go back in time literally in on our youtube take

a look at where the project was a year ago and a year before that and how things progress and that can give you an idea

  • 12:04

from a development standpoint you know what the process looks like on an iterative basis as the

  • 12:10

as it continues forward um and that's i think i'm sorry i know i look like crazy because i'm like every time

and when it's very dramatic i know every time in winter i i don't have like a way to

  • 12:23

block this light in the tall uh uh windows and they just kind of come in in the morning

sorry about that okay so without further jeff do you want to say anything about about this anything um i think it

covered it pretty pretty extensively i mean it's it's um you know it definitely is a work in progress we've got a long way to go

but um but i'm pretty proud of what we put out um you know especially for where we're at right now

um i'm pretty excited about how things turned out for this test um obviously we have a long way to go but i mean i think you can see the shape

  • 12:52

of things um and that shape of things is looking really good so listen i'm excited i i don't know

one last disclaimer i'll give is uh we do fight these bosses as just a party it's intended to be for a raid

so um it we didn't do very well and i definitely cheated with some gm

hacks and just to give you an idea the reason why i cheat in the in these videos is because i don't want to die repeatedly

and give you guys that perspective that point of view in the video i'd rather you guys get to see things so

i just kind of give myself a lot of help so yeah just to give you idea all right without further ado we're

gonna show you guys the the gameplay footage and like i said you can see it after the stream we're gonna come back into our normal update but after the

stream we'll post it in the 4k version and all its might and glory check it out there so we

how about you talk about um some of the uh changes that were present in this alpha

  • 14:31

build with the nodes and like how that new system oh yeah okay that's a good that's a good point um so yeah the old system um i think

  • 14:38

everything up until this point now i think this might be the first time we've shown it is the um the

  • 14:44

our transition to kind of the real node system the the system that we're going to use for the final game

  • 14:50

um before we had kind of hard-coded all of our nodes so they were kind of all crafted

  • 14:55

individually and when they bought they were kind of really specific to that area

  • 15:00

um and there was nothing really dynamic about it right like the the power of it was in terms of you

  • 15:07

know being able to show off some of the the mechanics that were inside the node so like the mayor's stuff being able to

  • 15:12

buy houses the service buildings and all that architecture but in this version we are moving

  • 15:20

towards our full dynamic node system so each of these nodes can pull from um

  • 15:30

a large number of different layouts um in this this we only have one layout available so they'll all look pretty similar

  • 15:35

um but the tech is there is that once uh art starts pumping out different layouts we can start populating them and then in

  • 15:42

terms of how the buildings are laid out again like they're going to look pretty static in this but the underlying

  • 15:49

the underlying power of it is it'll be able to pull sort of different houses and buildings and different

  • 15:55

positions for all these things and kind of build out a character for each node as they level up and

  • 16:00

that's for each stage of the nodes um so again what you're going to see is going to be a little bit rough

  • 16:07

but uh the cool thing is is that like the full dynamic power of what these nodes are going to

  • 16:12

be is all baked in there so as we start moving forward and we get more assets we'll be able to start

  • 16:18

showing you guys kind of what this dynamic system can do so it's pretty exciting

  • 16:23

um to actually be working and get your hands on like that that final final get that sense of like what

  • 16:31

these are going to actually do and it's pretty exciting

we wanted to take a moment just to kind of give you guys a little update i know i promised some footage of

the alpha one testing that was going on this last weekend and boy have we had some testing um it's been

really awesome to see the the alpha one testers come in and and help this over the weekend

it's been a sleep deprived weekend but uh it's been very very good we've gotten a lot of progress we've updated a lot of

  • 17:33

bugs that have been found and um engineering team has been working very hard over the weekend so huge kudos to them and to the testers as

  • 17:40

well but today i want to show you around the world of vero just a little bit i've got another 4k video so hopefully

you guys enjoy that um i am actually joined by some of some more people of our team

uh you may recognize the very soft and elegant peter peter how you doing

buddy doing great hope everyone out there is doing all right peter is one of our senior producers on the Ashes of Creation project

um he keeps the department sane with their schedules and their our agile development and

puts in a lot of great tasks into jira much fun we also have uh joining us

you're a toast and think about that we also have our lead programmer kevin mcpherson you

try not to what bug our code is perfect we uh we really appreciate it we got so

many call stacks crashes we did profile runs we got so much data that wouldn't be

honestly i think we're going to have to cheat a little bit so peter and i have upped our health because these are intended for like a

full raid they're like twin bosses you guys might have seen um the screenshots that i put up on

twitter the other day and in discord um and you've likely heard some of the lore

behind the ancients so we'll take you around this new area what you're seeing here is

one of the new areas in the uh alpha one pretest map let me open my map real

quick actually so you can see uh used to be alpha zero island was kind of this area here

  • 20:16

and now we've included this whole other area of the alpha one testing map which

  • 20:22

probably accommodates i would say about 65 65 to 75 square kilometers

of testing space for this first pretest and obviously that that grows as we continue um what do i have here

light and shadows kind of filter through the trees especially in this jungle area it's beautiful in here all right
