Mercenary NPCs

Mercenary NPCs can be hired to participate in objective-based situations.[2][3][4]

  • Varying tiers of mercenary NPCs may be unlocked based on the investment made in their progression. Highest tier NPC mercenaries are referred to as heros.[5][6][2][3]
    • Mayors are able to allocate treasury funding to hire mercenary NPCs to defend their node during sieges.[3][4]
    • Nodes can invest in upgrade paths that give a greater selection of roles and quality (gear level) of NPC mercenaries used for caravan defense.[5]
    • NPC mercenaries can be hired to participate in castle sieges based on the allocation made by the governing castle and how successful they have been defending their castle nodes.[6][2]
    • These mechanics are subject to change based on testing and priorities.[5][6]
  • Players can assign mercenary NPCs, but won't micromanage them, in a similar manner to pets.[4]
There are mercenary NPCs that can be assigned to players. We've discussed about that before and those will follow generically... a pet system even adopted majority of the pet system with the added bonus of objective based points of interest that you can assign them to. But we don't want to inundate the field with these mercenaries they'll be few and far between. They'll be assigned specifically like let's say for example as the mayor of a node during a siege you'll be able to assign these two specific players that are citizens within your node and then they'll have those they'll spawn during the during the node siege; or vice versa and the castle siege guild leaders can assign mercenaries that are available based on the progress of those subsidiary nodes around the castle siege whether or not you have those available to your defense or your attack.[4]Steven Sharif

Freehold security

A permissions system will enable an owner/primary tenant to grant access to specific parts of their housing.[7][8][9][10]

A property has a single owner/primary tenant.[7][16][8]

  • Marriage enables family size to increase by one so that housing access can be shared.[16][17]
  • Access lists can be used to mimic co-ownership.[10]
  • Payment of taxes may be via a "gentleman's agreement".[18]
It'll be a single owner based system for those types of properties- for properties in general, but it doesn't prevent players obviously from collaborating and pooling resources in order to achieve certain achievements in the game.[8]Steven Sharif

Freehold owners are able to set permissions that grant access to their artisan and business buildings' services.[19][20][21][22][23]

Freehold ownership is designated by one account only and then the family system is the system that facilitates multiple accounts having permission basis within that freehold.[16]Steven Sharif
  • Freehold permissions are intended to work with the family and guild systems.[19][20][21]
    • It is still not determined if freehold permissions will be able to be granted to individuals outside those social structures.[20]
    • Freehold permissions may only apply to battalions/micro-structures within a guild.[24]
    • Interaction with the guild system will be tested in Alpha-2.[25]
Permissions to help manage your home are handled through affiliations like your Guild and family system. When setting permissions for your Freehold to do things like enter the house, interact with furniture, access Freehold storage, interact with crafting and processing stations, and harvesting gatherables on a Freehold, you can set if your Guild or family members should be able to do these things.[19]

Players cannot steal from a freehold under normal circumstances.[19][27][12][28]

  • Items stored in a freehold become lootable after a successful siege against their parent node.[29][19][28] It has not been decided which players get to loot the debris field during this period.[29]
Only players given permission to do so will be able to do things like access your Freehold storage, and harvest crops and animals on your Freehold. These permissions are capable of being individually assigned per interaction. Note that if the node associated with your Freehold is successfully destroyed during a siege event, attackers will be able to assault Freeholds, and have a chance to pillage them for their resources.[19]

Players cannot PvP while inside the footprint of a freehold homestead even if the doors are unlocked.[19][30] This does not apply for a period of two hours following a successful siege against its parent node.[31][32][33][34]

Your home building is safe from PvP. While on the footprint of your home, you can not be harmed by damage from other players.[19]
  • NPC guards may be available for hire to defend freeholds after a successful node siege.[34] NPC guards that permanently exist on a freehold are not a planned feature.[35]
